Strength and Conditioning

Do you want to be able to attack each day and workout with confidence in your own abilities? We can get you to the next level of your athletic potential in any sport.

Do you want to Squat, Bench, and Deadlift as much as possible? Powerlifting is a sport in which an athlete aims to maximize the total of their Squat, Bench, and Deadlift. We will empower you to push your strength limits safely and effectively.

Beginner LIfting / Bridging the rehabilitative gap

Did you graduate physical therapy but don’t yet feel confident in your performance? Do you want to learn how to lift properly and safely?

We can help you feel great and improve performance in order to reach YOUR next level, whether it’s gold medals, attacking your hobbies with confidence, or pain-free daily living.

Who am I?

I have high-level experience in a variety of sports. I was a highly-ranked wrestler for 12 years before leaving the sport due to injury. I then transitioned into Powerlifting, climbing the ranks and winning the International Powerlifting Federation world championship within two years of beginning the sport. After a stint as a walk-on NCAA Hammer Thrower at Emory University, I transitioned into Olympic Weightlifting in which I am currently a 3-time USA National qualifier and Arnold Classic bronze medalist. I am no stranger to adversity and roadblocks: In 2020, I had surgery for double quad-tendon tears and worked my way back to the platform in 2023, hitting PRs and winning my first national level medals. I believe with a roll-with-the-punches attitude, we can accomplish our goals together!

Coaching Philosophy and Experience

I have studied under some of the best national-level coaches and athletes in the United States, and am a certified USA Weightlifting Coach. My goal is to ensure that you achieve your goals through intelligent training methodologies that I developed through years of coaching and training experience.

I am most proud to be a student of sport and lifelong learner. I am consistently pushing to improve my coaching skillset in order to better serve my athletes. You can be confident in my adaptability and consistent growth as a coach. My dream since being a child has been to be a coach - I am living my dream, and am hungry to continue to improve in order to best serve my athletes.

With experience on the elite level in Powerlifting, Weightlifting, and Athletics, I am equipped with the technical knowledge and ingrained passion to help you achieve your goals, whether they are to compete on an elite level, improve how you feel and function in your daily life, or anything in between.

What’s all this talk about being a champion?

I believe in living every day with the outlook of a champion. Being a champion is not about winning. It’s about how you conduct yourself, and the attitude you bring to your life. Do you have a growth mindset? Do you roll with the punches when you face challenges? Do you uplift those around you? Do you give full effort?

David Goggins often references Rocky 1 round 14. Rocky is getting the crap beat out of him, but he GETS BACK UP against all odds. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve related to the image of a bloodied man continuing to move forward no matter what obstacle he faces. We all can relate to that.

Life isn’t about being perfect, and it’s not about everything going our way. How do you react when you’re faced with challenges? Rocky lost his fight, but won the hearts of many because he had the inner strength to get back up.

In 2020, I couldn’t walk after my double knee surgery. I had no idea what the future held for my weightlifting career, but I was going to do everything in my power to reach my highest potential (I still don’t even know how high that goes yet!).

Now, I’ve won the USA National Championship (U25) and I am Arnold Classic bronze medalist.

Being a champion is not about winning, but about continuing to move forward and do YOUR best, no matter what. That’s the philosophy we embrace at Matthew Jones Performance.
